    I’m excited to announce that Indiana University’s Histotechnology Program is growing and adding to our team. We are currently looking for an education coordinator for our successful NAACLS-accredited Histotechnology Program. The program started in 1995 and was the nation’s first distance education program for Histotechnology and the first distance education program at Indiana University.     Within the Department of Pathology, our laboratory team falls into two sections, Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology. Our Clinical Pathology Team is comprised of the Automated Testing Laboratory, Phlebotomy, Special Hematology, Blood Bank, Hematopoietic Cell Therapy, Microbiology and Virology, while our Anatomic Pathology Team includes Cytology, Decedent Care, Histology, Histocompatibility and Molecular Diagnostics. Together, we perform over 8.7 million tests annually that are critical for an accurate diagnosis, treatment and ongoing care for our patients.

    SUMMARY OF POSITION:

    Responsible for the performance of various histological procedures, techniques and processes utilized in the Histology and/or Dermatopathology Laboratory.

    RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

    Prepare tissue sections for light microscopy to include processing, embedding, sectioning, routine staining (H & E) and labeling.

    Perform special stains as requested by Pathologist.

    Perform procedures such as immunofluorescence and decalcifications on paraffin and frozen sections.

    Prepare and maintain a wide variety of stains and other chemical reagents for specialized and complex procedures as requested.

    Maintain QA/QC logs accurately and in a timely manner.

    Maintain and troubleshoot equipment as necessary including processors, stainers, coverslipper water baths and microtomes.

    Participate in rotating call schedule as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    ASCP HT Certification or equivalent OR 2 years in an ASCP accredited Histology Laboratory.

    Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements.

    The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex. National Association Credential

    Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE).

    The applicant is responsible for paying the cost of the equivalency evaluation.

    What you need to know about this position:

    • Busy Anatomical Pathology Laboratory with state of the art equipment, with the opportunity to work independently within a small group.
    • The Histotechnologist position base pay rate is commensurate with education and experience.
    • In this position you would be scheduled to work 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM shift; Monday through Friday; 40 weekly hours.

    What is required for this position:

    • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program within the last 5 years prior to the date of application for examination;

    OR

    • High school graduation (or equivalent) and three years full time acceptable experience in histopathology, within the last ten years, under the supervision of a pathologist (certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic Pathology, or eligible), or an appropriately certified medical scientist

    HISTOTECHNICIAN JOB OPENING

    American Dermatopathology Laboratory 

    (certified, eligible for certification or currently a histotechnician student)

    The American Dermatopathology Laboratory located south of Dayton, OH (north of Cincinnati, OH) is a private medical lab specialized in processing and interpreting skin biopsies from patients with skin rashes and tumors.

    We have an immediate opening for a laboratory histotechnician (histology technician). The position is either part-time or full-time- first shift (5:00 am-1:00 pm if full-time and 5:00 am-9:00 am if part-time), Monday to Friday. Weekends off.

    Both an entry level candidate (with no previous work in this field) and a certified or eligible for certification histotechnician as well as a current histotechnician student will be considered.      We will train the right candidate even if that person has no experience.

    Immediate availability.

    The Indiana University Histotechnology Program is seeking a Teaching Assistant-Grader (TA). This person will work closely with the Program’s director, education coordinator and administrative assistant. Assignments will need to be picked up from the program and graded remotely.     Job Summary

    The Teaching Assistant-Grader (TA) in histotechnology is responsible for the grading of homework, practicum logs and technical product (slides, blocks & accompanying paperwork) for the Histotechnology Program. TA's are generally expected to grade and provide feedback on student assignments, and attend any other meetings scheduled by the course instructor. The TA is required to be familiar enough with all histologic concepts involved in a class in order to accurately grade that material. The ability to identify tissue microscopically, distinguish high quality technical product, identify faults, problem solve issues and provide troubleshooting technique feedback is a must. The TA is required to input and maintain an accurate grade record. Graders are responsible for learning all background and lecture material necessary for accurate grading of homework and technical product at the instructor’s discretion.

    Performs grading duties in support of the Histotechnology Educational program.
    • 90% grading of homework, practicum logs and technical product.
    • 10% attend meetings scheduled by the course instructor.

    Required Qualifications

    AS degree in science and two years of histology experience in a full-service clinical histology, diagnostic veterinary or research core lab.

    HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) certified.

    Ability to work independently. Strong judgment and communication skills. Time management skills.

    Work Location

    Will be working in an office and online. 

    Approximate hours per week: varies, up to 10/week.
